Formerly: Chair of Leicester Theatre Trust (2003-10); Executive Director, Kneehigh Theatre (2009); Chief Executive of Centrepoint, the national youth homelessness charity, (2001-08). Formerly: member, DfES Minister's Advisory Group on Youth and DfES Third Sector Task Force; Member, Advisory Board for the Institute of Public Governance and Management, Warwick Business School; non-executive member, Central London Connexions Partnership Board.
Past paid appointments have included: Deputy-Chief Executive/Director of Policy and Programmes at the National Youth Agency (England); Senior Research Fellow at Warwick Business School (Warwick University); Lecturer in Management and Director of Public Sector programmes at Leicester University Management Centre (Depts. of Adult Education and Economics); a Chief Project Officer at the Commonwealth Secretariat; Head of Economic and Employment Development at Leicester City Council.
