How to ApplyThe College welcomes equally applications from women and men. If you wish to work for an Oxford postgraduate degree at Nuffield, you must be offered a student place. About 30 of these places are awarded each year. Applications should be made as soon as possible after 1 October in the year before you wish to enter the College (the academic year in Oxford begins in October). You should normally make a formal application by early January, though some deadlines are as early as November. However, each Department and different courses have their own deadlines for application. You should look carefully in the Graduate Propsectus and on the Departments' Web pages to check which are the relevant deadlines. You may choose to either (i) indicate that you have no preference, in which case a college will be selected on your behalf, or (ii) state a college preference. You will not be able to amend your choice after submitting your application. Whether or not you state a college preference will not affect how your department assesses your application and ultimately whether or not they decide to make you an offer. Applicants will only be able to select a college which supports their area of study. The University requires online applications for the majority of programmes. Paper applications are only acceptable where there is no option to make an online application to the course or in other exceptional cases where it is not possible for you to apply online. If this is the case then contact Graduate Admissions at graduate.admissions@admin.ox.ac.uk. You will be able to complete and submit your application online and upload electronic copies of supporting materials (including written materials, curriculum vitae etc). There is an application fee for each programme of study to which you apply - currently £50. For full details of the programmes that are available online, closing dates, guidance notes for applying, and a link to the Online Application Form, visit: www.admin.ox.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply/. If your application to the University is successful and you are offered a place on a course, then your application will automatically be forwarded to a college - your college choice (if this option is selected) - for consideration. The application will be sent to another college if rejected by the first. If offered a University place then Oxford guarantees to find you a college place also. You should note that the award of a student place at Nuffield is decided separately from decisions about funding. Please see the next section FUNDING YOUR STUDIES for information about funding. Visiting Students Information for students registered on graduate courses of study at other universities and wishing to spend one, two or three terms as a visiting student at Nuffield can be found on the Web. In addition to the University fee, visiting students will also be expected to pay the College fee. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nuffield was the first Oxford college to be open to both women and men and the first Official Fellow was Margery Perham. The College is aware that women face particular barriers in entering graduate studies, and is anxious to overcome these. Reference has already been made to the Adviser to Women Students and to the JCR Women's Officer. It is part of the College Statutes that no applicant for admission should be subject to any religious, political or racial test. The College is an Equal Opportunities Employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
