researchers are welcome to consult archive materials. Prospective archive
readers should apply in writing by post or email to the Archives Assistant to
make an appointment in advance of their visit. Members of Oxford University should bring their University card as ID. External archive readers must produce a letter of accreditation on their first visit to the Library or identification from their home institution; readers are not permitted to consult archives without proper identification and verification of their status. Access is during normal Library opening hours: 9.30 a.m.-5.30 p.m., Monday-Friday. A reduced service is available between 1 and 2 p.m. The Library is closed to archive readers during mornings from mid-July to mid-September, and during the Christmas and Easter breaks. Wheelchair access to the Library is possible with assistance. Please telephone ahead of your visit, or apply at the Lodge on arrival. Archive readers should complete an application form for each collection being consulted. This form should be completed in ink and should provide full details of the files required as listed in the relevant handlist. Readers may consult one archive box at a time; several boxes may however be requested at once and kept on reserve as space allows. Boxes should be handed in at the Enquiry Desk when readers leave the Library for any period. Pencil should be used at all times when consulting documents. Use of laptops is permitted on the condition that other readers are not disturbed. |
