What
is the European Network on Latin American Politics?
REPLA is a joint venture between
students from the
University
of
Oxford,
the
University
of
Salamanca
and Sciences Po to facilitate the
sharing of ideas, projects and investigative work among postgraduates, academics and
other interested groups. The objective is to strengthen academic exchange between
European universities with strong academic profiles in the field of Latin American
politics.
Antecedents
-
The first REPLA annual
academic workshop was held in the city of
Poitiers,
France
on 30 May 2007. The central theme of
this event was how to address the deficit of political accountability in democratic
institutions in
Latin America.
Students from the three Universities presented their ongoing research and
exchanged ideas on the proposed topic.
-
The second annual REPLA workshop was held at
Nuffield
College,
University
of
Oxford
in March 2008 and brought together scholars from across Europe and
Latin
America. A range of high quality papers were presented
over two days bringing to bear a valuable range of perspectives on the overall workshop
theme. In particular, the multiple
challenges facing contemporary democratic regimes throughout
Latin America.
These papers are available for download below.
REPLA extend their grateful thanks to their sponsors:
Nuffield
College, The University of Salamanca, Sciences-Po, the
Oxford University Mexican Studies Programme, and the Inter-American Development
Bank.

The III Annual REPLA
Workshop will be held at the
University of Salamanca
in 2009. This event will bring together
postgraduate researchers working in distinct but interrelated areas of enquiry,
as well as established academics, to engage in a timely debate on the state of contemporary
Latin American politics. This will
be a rare opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary research network of
academic institutions throughout Europe and with strong links to research centres
and academics in
Latin America.
Ongoing research groups:
REPLA currently has four ongoing research tracks and group
conveners welcome proposals from interested parties on possible projects that fall
within the rubric of individual research groups.
REPLA conveners also welcome proposals for new initiatives, research tracks,
and events of a broader nature in line with the overall interests of the REPLA community.
