The library has seven networked computers. Three of these computers provide access to SOLO (the library catalogue) and
OxLIP+, including OU e-journals
. The remaining computers provide access to the internet, allowing you to browse the web. They do not have Microsoft Office installed, although you are able to print documents from USB sticks on these computers. If you would like to use software like Microsoft Office, it is best to bring your own computer to the library. You are not required to log in to the library's computers to use them.
Laptops and mobile devices
You are welcome to use your laptop and mobile devices in the library. Access to the wireless network is available throughout the library. There are a couple of locations where you might have difficulty connecting to the wireless network, including the basement and stairwells.
Connecting to the wireless network
Nuffield College members
Members of Nuffield College are able to connect their laptops and mobile devices to the network three ways:
External library users
Library users external to Nuffield College are able to connect their laptops and mobile devices to the network two ways:
Visitors to the library who do not have an Oxford University card should request a visitor login but if you have access to Eduroam, you should use that method.
*When you log into Eduroam, make sure that you add '@ox.ac.uk' to the end of your username. If you do not, you will not be able to log in.
Power and Ethernet points
The desks in the library have power points for you to plug in your device and some of the desks have Ethernet points for you to connect your laptop to. Ethernet cables are available for you to borrow from the Enquiry Desk. Some of the Ethernet points only provide access to the Nuffield network whilst others provide access to the visitors' network. Please bear this in mind when you are trying to connect via an Ethernet point.
Although you do not need to log on to use the library computers, we encourage you to log out of any databases, the library catalogue, email, or any other websites once you have finished using the computer.
Please do not leave your valuables, laptop or mobile device unattended in the library.
