New Year's Honours for Nuffield Fellows

Senior Research Fellow John Darwin and Visiting Fellow Sharon White are recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for 2020.

We are delighted to note that Nuffield Fellows and associates have been honoured in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for 2020.

Nuffield Senior Research Fellow and former Professor of Global and Imperial History John Darwin was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of services to the study of global history.

On receiving the honour, John commented:

“Getting global history, and Oxford's Centre for Global History, underway was very much a team effort which I was proud to be part of. I hope this award will also help to highlight Nuffield's commitment to global history and studies”

In this year’s list, there was also a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for Visiting Fellow Sharon White. Sharon is the former Chief Executive of OFCOM and Chair-Elect of the John Lewis Partnership, and was honoured with a DBE for public service.

Associate Member Sarah Whatmore, Professor of Environment and Public Policy and Head of the University of Oxford’s Social Sciences Division, also received a DBE for services to the study of environmental policy.
