Jemolo Fellowships 2025-26
Applications invited by Friday 21 February 2025.
Following the successful relaunch of the Jemolo Fellowships scheme in which six scholars were elected to visit Nuffield College during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years, the College is delighted to invite expressions of interest/applications for the next round of the Jemolo Fellowships scheme, for academic visits to Nuffield, Oxford in the 2025-26 academic year.
The Jemolo Fellowships – named after Arturo Carlo Jemolo, a distinguished lawyer and historian— were set up at Nuffield College in the early 1990s thanks to a generous endowment from the Banca d'Italia, Banca Commerciale Italiana and Istituto S. Paolo di Torino (now merged into Intesa San Paolo), Banca di Roma (now merged into UniCredit), and the Assicurazioni Generali, with the aim of furthering intellectual links between Italy and the United Kingdom. The purpose of the Fellowship is to enable both Italian researchers and non-Italian scholars carrying out work on Italy to spend a period at the College to pursue research, further study or advanced training in the fields of Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Modern History and Public Law.
The scheme is open to both established academics and other researchers who wish to pursue their research in Oxford and collaborate with Nuffield College Fellows in one of the Jemolo Fellowship fields given above. Please note that the scheme is not open to doctoral candidates or masters students. The Jemolo Fellows are expected to be present in College and play an active role in the intellectual life and activities of the College.
The Fellowships normally last between one and six months (the duration of the Fellows’ visits is flexible but the College would expect a minimum of one month’s presence in College). They do not carry a stipend, but cover the Fellow’s travel expenses, accommodation in a College guestroom, and meals, along with access to the College Library and to IT facilities. Any visa related costs incurred by the Fellow will also be covered.
The deadline for applications to be considered for visits in the academic year 2025-26 is Friday 21st February 2025. Applications should be sent to academic.admin@nuffield.ox.ac.uk. They should include a CV and an outline (maximum 2 pages) of the research to be pursued during the Fellowship.
Informal inquiries can be made by emailing senior.tutor@nuffield.ox.ac.uk.
