Nicholas is a DPhil Candidate in International Relations. His research is on the termination and aftermath of civil wars, looking at territorial control and the formation of post-war political orders. Geographically, he focuses on conflicts in the Caucasus and the Balkans. Wider research interests include civil war and armed conflict, peace processes, conflict management, statebuilding, and international security. He is also interested in qualitative research methodology, and fieldwork in conflict-affected areas in particular. Nicholas has post-graduate degrees in Global Politics (University of London) and Political Science (Central European University).
He founded and continues to co-convene the Working Group on Armed Conflict, part of Oxford’s Changing Character of War Centre.
