Raluca Pahontu

Associate Member

Raluca is a political economist exploring the causes and consequences of inequality, the ways in which individuals’ risk profiles influence their insurance demand, support for the welfare state and left-wing parties. In her work, she relies on historical, spatial and administrative data, as well as long-run individual panel data and newly collected and assembled electoral data from the United States and Europe. A related research agenda explores, from a “top-down” perspective, the effects of institutional settings on inequality and subsequent policy outputs. Raluca earned her DPhil in Political Science at Nuffield College in 2020, and is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
