Assistant Librarian (Collections)

Nuffield College seeks to appoint an Assistant Librarian to join a team of dedicated library professionals in the College Library, on a permanent contract. Nuffield is a graduate college of the University of Oxford dedicated to advanced study and research in the social sciences, particularly economics, politics, and sociology. Nuffield College Library lies at the heart of the College’s academic endeavour and provides unparalleled support to students, researchers and academics. It is one of the finest social science research libraries in the UK and reflects the academic interests of the College’s research community.

The postholder is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Library’s collections and supporting the Library’s ongoing programme of collection development and maintenance projects. They will also contribute to the general operation of the Library and its services to readers.

Applicants should be educated to first-degree level or have equivalent relevant experience. They should have experience of working in an academic library, particularly of technical library services using an automated system including some knowledge of cataloguing standards and practice. The successful applicant will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent attention to detail; a flexible and proactive approach to work and the ability to contribute effectively to a small team.

The post is intended to be a full-time position, but we will also consider applications from candidates who wish to hold the post on a part-time basis.
