The University seeks to appoint a world-class Statistical Scientist with a keen interest in the Social Sciences. This prestigious Professorial Research Fellow post is a rare and exciting opportunity, bringing together the Department and College in close partnership. The post is based at the Department of Statistics, 24-29 St Giles’, Oxford, OX1 3LB, in association with Nuffield College.
This senior academic appointment represents an exciting opportunity for collaboration with Nuffield College, which specialises in the social sciences. The Professorial Research Fellow will be a world-leading academic who will provide outstanding research leadership, bringing with them a vision for the discipline within the University of Oxford and internationally. They will forge strong links around the Social Sciences Division in line with the research strategy at the Department of Statistics, and align the strengths within Statistics and the Social Sciences departments at Oxford.
The Professorial Research Fellow will undertake teaching within the Department, examining at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervision of postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and research as well as other duties within the Department. They will also provide dedicated expertise and leadership in statistics within the College.
The Professorial Research Fellow will have a have a doctorate in statistics or a related discipline. They will be a statistician of international standing with some research interests in the social sciences and will provide intellectual leadership within the Department and the College. They will have an outstanding record of innovative research in Statistics and will be able to demonstrate the potential to produce further work of high significance and impact. They will have proven their ability to provide research leadership and direction across the broad field of Statistics and the ability to lead and inspire academic colleagues. A record of successful undergraduate and graduate teaching, and the ability and readiness to lecture at an appropriate level to undergraduate and graduate audiences is essential.

This post is funded jointly with Nuffield College. Additional College benefits include
