The Nuffield Politics Research Centre hosts affiliated Research Fellows, elected for a specific period for their contributions to the wider aims and ambitions of the Centre.
The Centre currently has two Research Fellows: Professor Gary King (academic) and The Rt. Hon. Liam Byrne MP (political).
Professor Gary King
Professor Gary King is the Albert J. Weatherhead III University Professor at Harvard University and Director of the Institute for Quantitative Social Science. He develops and applies empirical methods in many areas of social science research, focusing on innovations that span the range from statistical theory to practical application. He has been elected to 8 honorary societies and has won more than 40 awards for his work. King has a long history of developing what are now widely used teaching and learning innovations, including as co-founder of the educational technology startups, Perusall, Learning Catalytics, and others.
The Rt. Hon. Liam Byrne MP
The Rt Hon. Liam Byrne MP is the shadow Mayor for the West Midlands and chair of the Global Parliamentary Network of the IMF and World Bank.
A former Cabinet minister, Liam was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Chief Secretary to the Treasury in the last Labour government. In Opposition, Liam served in a number of frontbench positions, chaired Labour’s Policy Review, founded and chaired the all party on inclusive growth, and served on the Council of Europe. A former Fulbright scholarship at the Harvard Business School, Liam has written twenty books, chapters and pamphlets about economic history, development and foreign affairs.
