LGBTQ+ History Month at Nuffield

We had a wonderful and celebratory evening in College on Thursday 15 February, as Professor Matt Cook joined us for our annual LGBTQ+ History Month speaker event. Matt is the newly appointed Jonathan Cooper Chair in the History of Sexuality at Oxford’s Faculty of History and Mansfield College; a social and cultural historian; and the author of books such as Queer Beyond London, Queer Domesticities and London and the Culture of Homosexuality (find them in the Nuffield Library!).

In conversation with our own Professor Rachel Bernhard, Matt talked to us about his career, his published and upcoming books, his time in Oxford so far, and the experience of being a researcher of queer and LGBTQ+ History. Around sixty Nuffield students, staff and Fellows joined for the discussion and Q+A, and the conversations continued over a fantastic dinner in Hall.

We are so grateful to Matt for generously sharing his work and time with us, and to Rachel for expertly chairing this event which brought the whole College community together.

A evening of great conversation and great socks.
