Former Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury

Tom Scholar is the Permanent Secretary of HM Treasury and took up this appointment on Monday 4 July 2016. Prior to this appointment Tom has been the Prime Minister’s Adviser on European and Global Issues since November 2013, after serving 4 years as Second Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury. He was also the UK’s G7 and G20 Sherpa.

2009 – 2013 Second Permanent Secretary at HM Treasury

2008 - 2009 Managing Director (International and Finance) at HM Treasury

2007 - 2008 Chief of Staff and Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister

2001 - 2007 Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and Minister (Economic) at the British Embassy in Washington DC

Prior to that he held a number of positions at HM Treasury, including Principal Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1998 to 2001).
