Sociology Visitorships - Nuffield College Oxford University

The Nuffield College Sociology Group invites applications for a Visitorship at the College during the 2027-28 academic year (between early October 2027 and late June 2028).

The scheme is open to established academics and others who wish to pursue their research in Oxford in the fields of Sociology, Social Policy or Demography. Please note that the scheme is not open to doctoral candidates or Masters students.

The Visitorship normally lasts between one and six months (longer visits to August 2028 may be considered). If you would like your visitorship to last longer than a term, please specify this in your application. It does not carry a stipend, but accommodation in a College guestroom (suitable for an individual or a couple) and meals are provided, along with library privileges and access to Nuffield IT facilities.

The College values diversity among its visitors and is eager to receive applications from a diverse pool of candidates. Applications are welcome from researchers from across the globe, including from institutions where we do not have existing links.

The deadline for applications to be considered for visits in the 2027-28 academic year is Monday 28 September 2026.

Applications should be submitted using the form below, where applicants will also be asked to upload a CV and an outline (maximum 2 pages) of the research to be pursued during the Visitorship.

Sociology Group Visitors are expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the College and, therefore, it is expected that their areas of research and methodological approach will overlap to some degree with those of one or more of the Professorial Fellows and Official Fellows of the College.
