Creating space for LGBTQI+ people in the Social Sciences

We are celebrating LGBTQI+ History Month at Nuffield College with an event bringing together three speakers from political science, economics, and sociology who are leaders in their fields on the study and integration of LGBTQI+ issues: Professor Phillip Ayoub (University College London), Professor M. V. Lee Badgett (University of Massachusetts Amherst), and Professor Kristopher Velasco (Princeton University). The speakers will address how we can make space for both the study of LGTBQI+ issues in the social sciences and for LGBTQI+ people as social scientists. To what extent have LGBTQI+ people and concerns become mainstream subjects of inquiry? What are impediments to studying LGBTQI+ people in economics, political science, and sociology? What obstacles do members of the community face as social scientists?
