UNIQ+ Graduate Access Programme

UNIQ+ Research Internships at Oxford University are aimed at talented undergraduates from under-represented groups, who would find continuing into postgraduate study a challenge for reasons other than their academic ability.

The seven-week summer programme aims to provide a real day-to-day experience of postgraduate research. Participants undertake a research project; attend training skills and information sessions; and meet and work with researchers, academic staff, and postgraduate students.

Nuffield College funds stipends for up to ten participants working on projects in the social sciences, as well as providing free accommodation for the same number.

In 2019, Nuffield launched its own graduate access scheme, the Nuffield Undergraduate Scholars' Institute, which ran parallel to the first year of UNIQ+ (at this time UNIQ+ did not include the social sciences). The aim of NUSI was to enhance diversity and inclusiveness within the social sciences in Oxford, and in UK academia more broadly, by expanding access to higher education to students whose socioeconomic background or other life circumstances may have made it more difficult for them to reach their full educational potential.

NUSI has now been incorporated under the umbrella of UNIQ+ for practical reasons and to avoid duplication; we are committed to contributing to the University's efforts to widen access to graduate study by the most effective means possible.
