Abstract

In recent years, measures of gender, sex, and sexuality in large-scale population surveys and censuses have come under scrutiny. Traditional measures fail to capture many social identities and family forms, particularly related to the LGBTQ+ community.

This panel event will discuss:

  • the concrete challenges to capturing increasingly diverse identities in large-scale surveys and censuses
  • potential solutions and innovative measures already employed or being developed around the world
  • ethical and policy implications of different ways to meet this challenge
