This year's speaker for the annual Nuffield LGBT Talk and Dinner will be the Right Honourable Lord Smith of Finsbury.
Lord Smith is currently the Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge, but before he donned the Master’s gown, he was MP for Islington South and Finsbury and became Britain’s very first openly gay MP in 1984 with the historic words, “Good afternoon, I'm Chris Smith, I'm the Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury and I'm gay.” He also became the first openly gay Cabinet member in 1997.
Lord Smith will talk about a lifetime of campaigning for LGBT+ Rights in the Large Lecture Room from 5.30pm on Friday 7 February and will be followed by a drinks reception at 6.30pm and dinner in Hall at 7pm. The dress code is smart casual.
We hope to see many of you there for what will be a very interesting talk by an important figure in British parliamentary life and LGBT+ campaigning, and a fantastic celebration of the LGBT community.
