Charles Girard
Professor of Political and Legal Philosophy, University of Lyon
Charles Girard is Full Professor of political and legal philosophy at the University of Lyon (Jean Moulin Lyon 3) in France. He holds a doctorate in philosophy from Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris. He has taught at Columbia University, Bruxelles University and Shanghai University. His research focuses on democratic theory and fundamental rights. He is the author of a book on deliberative democracy, Délibérer entre égaux. Enquête sur l'idéal démocratique (Vrin, 2019) and co-editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Freedom of Expression. European perspectives (CUP, to be published). He currently leads the Egalibex research program on "Freedom of Expression and Equal Participation", funded by the French National Research Agency. During his visitorship at Nuffield College, he is working on private censorship.
