Jasmin Abdel Ghany

Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow in Sociology

I am a Nuffield Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow in Sociology with interests at the intersection of demography and sociology. My background is in social research methods. My work is centred on early life exposures and the question of how the environment shapes social inequalities and health outcomes. I completed my PhD (DPhil) at the University of Oxford, supported by Nuffield College and the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Sciences. I am an alumna of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research's IMPRS-PHDS Research School, where I was based for part of my PhD. My doctoral work focused on the impact of in-utero exposure to extreme heat on maternal health, infant health, and population composition. More generally, I am interested in identifying the inequal and lasting impact of environmental exposures on population health and socioeconomic attainment outcomes across a range of population contexts, the mechanisms that drive these relationships, and their implications for social stratification.
