DPhil in Politics

I am a DPhil candidate in Politics, specialising in comparative and historical political economy. My doctoral research is generously funded by Nuffield College and the Department of Politics and International Relations.

My thesis explores the interplay between economic and political inequality. Specifically, my first paper explores the conditions under which redistributive politics can be electorally successful. I focus on the role of austerity in reinvigorating class and distributive conflict and how this was expressed by anti-austerity parties in advanced democracies. I am also working on conceptualising a notion of oligarchy that captures the supply-side and interest group constraints that redistributive politics face. To that end, I survey how different mechanisms of representation, beyond the liberal electoral ones, can facilitate redistributive politics. My work is supervised by Ben Ansell and David Rueda.

Prior to Oxford, I completed my undergraduate studies in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at University College London (UCL) with first class honours. I also hold two master’s degrees. The first is from the Paris School of Economics, where I studied Economics (mention trés bien / summa cum laude) and wrote my thesis under the supervision of Thomas Piketty. I completed my second master’s degree (MA) in Philosophy and Capitalism Studies at the New School for Social Research (4.0/4.0 GPA), writing my thesis under the supervision of Simon Critchley and Omri Boehm.

Beyond my doctoral studies, I hold positions in research organisations. I am a Fellow at the World Inequality Database (WID) in Paris, a Research Associate at ENA - Institute for Alternative Policies in Athens, and a member of the Greek Association for Political Economy (GAPE).

I have published papers and book chapters in the fields of economics, political economy, and political theory. For more information, please visit my personal website
