Till Hovestadt

DPhil in Sociology

I am a DPhil student in Sociology at Nuffield College and the University of Oxford. My research interests center around social class, social cohesion, social networks, segregation, social influence, and social capital.

In my DPhil project, I am researching two contemporary challenges to societies: segregation of social networks and social cohesion. I am interested in how societies, in face of stark segregation between social groups, manage to maintain social cohesion. A specific focus of my work lies on the segregation between social classes which I believe to be underrepresented in current sociological research.

Prior to joining Nuffield College, I obtained a B.A. and M.A. from Leipzig University in Germany and worked in a research project on the role of friendship networks in shaping educational inequality. More information can be found on my personal website
