Nuffield-CESS announces collaboration with FLAME University, India 

New regional centre provides unique opportunity for Nuffield scholars to cooperate with the vibrant and rapidly growing community of social scientists in India

A collaboration between Nuffield College and FLAME University in Pune, India, was officially agreed on 20 October 2016 with the launch of the CESS Nuffield-FLAME University (https://cess-india.nuff.ox.ac.uk/). The new Centre will be the first of its kind in India, enhancing the country’s vibrant social sciences scholarly community and enabling researchers from all over the world to carry out laboratory, field and online experiments with an Indian subject pool. The official signing ceremony took place at Nuffield College in Oxford and the memorandum was signed by Sir Andrew Dilnot (Warden of Nuffield College), Professor Raymond Duch (Director of CESS Oxford), Professor Devi Singh (Vice-Chancellor of FLAME University), Tejas Patani (Board of Management Member of FLAME University) and Krutarth Shah (Governing Body Member of FLAME University), Professor Sharon Barnhardt, and Professor Pavan Mamidi. Professor Barnhardt will be the Director of CESS Nuffield-FLAME University and Professor Mamidi the Centre’s Director of International Research Collaborations. Researchers from the new Centre in Pune will have the opportunity to attend training sessions led by Nuffield CESS staff, both in Oxford and at FLAME University. This will contribute to the training of young experimental social scientist in India and the development of the country’s rapidly growing social sciences network. CESS Nuffield-FLAME University is the third Centre for Experimental Social Sciences to be opened around the world, with facilities already existing in Oxford and Santiago, Chile. Speaking about the new initiative, Professor Duch said that “CESS Nuffield is extremely excited about the collaboration with FLAME University in India. FLAME University are acknowledged as pioneers of liberal education in India, and their focus on inter-disciplinary education makes them the right fit for us. This collaboration offers Nuffield CESS a unique opportunity for Oxford scholars to cooperate with the vibrant and rapidly growing community of social scientists in India.
