'What's Wrong with Democracy?'
Professorial Fellow Ben Ansell has launched a podcast on the challenges facing democracy worldwide, to coincide with one of the biggest global election years in 2024.
In the podcast – What’s Wrong with Democracy?, produced by Tortoise Media and supported by the Open Society Foundations – Ben ‘diagnoses democracy’s ailments’ from the UK to India and beyond with the help of guest experts.
Early episodes include an interview with Nuffield alumna and Manchester University Professor Olga Onuch (DPhil Politics 2007; Research Fellow 2012-14; Associate Member 2014-20) on the war in Ukraine (‘Episode 2: The autocrat next door’).
Ben also gave the BBC Reith Lectures in December 2023 on ‘Our Democratic Future’.
Episodes of What’s Wrong with Democracy? are released on Wednesdays and are available on any popular podcast player. The latest episode – ‘Big money, big problems?’ – was released on Wednesday 26 June and asks what happens when money meets democracy.
