Iain McLean’s research on the Aberfan disaster of 1966 is returning to prominence as the 50th anniversary of the disaster approaches. Iain is a consultant on a TV programme being made for BBC Wales to mark the occasion. In a speech marking his election as a fellow of the British Academy in 2008, Iain described his work on Aberfan as the most important research he has done so far. It has led to governments returning money to the Aberfan Disaster Fund that was improperly taken from it in the 1960s.
