Front of House Assistant (Hospitality & Events)

Application deadline: 12.00 noon on Friday 6th November 2026.

Salary: £25,831 per annum, equivalent to £14.19 per hour (Salary review pending)

Nuffield College invites applications for the position of Front of House (FoH) Assistant. The purpose of this role is to assist the FoH Manager in the smooth running of the Catering and Conference Department, helping to achieve and maintain the high standards expected by the College.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience across dining, events and wider hospitality operations in a role designed to grow with you. As your skills, experience and confidence develop there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility in areas such as event supervision, staff coordination, training support, stock control and event administration.

Working 35 hours per week, the role offers variety, ongoing professional and development opportunities for career progression within Front of House, events and hospitality. We are proud that already many of our Front of House Assistants have progressed into more senior roles within the department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn and able to demonstrate strong time management, organisational and communication skills. Previous experience in a Front of House or similar hospitality environment would be an advantage but is not essential, as training and support will be provided. Flexibility with working hours is essential to meet the operational needs of the College. The normal working week is 35 hours, excluding meal breaks, spread over five days out of seven on a rota basis (Monday to Sunday). Where additional hours are required, time off in lieu will be provided.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced senior team, gaining valuable operational knowledge and developing the skills needed to take on greater responsibility. As your experience grows, the role provides a strong foundation for progression into Front of House supervision, event operations and wider hospitality management.

Our benefits package includes 41 days annual leave inclusive of public holidays and closed periods at Christmas and Easter, free meals whilst on duty, a season-ticket loan scheme, and contributory pension scheme.

Full details of the role, including selection criteria, can be found in the Job Description.
