New College entrance and Porter’s Lodge

College members and visitors will now enter the College through the large Worcester Street gates.

The new accessible Porters’ Lodge and main entrance into the lower quad opens today, Friday 3 May. The new location, at the large Worcester Street gates, was the main entrance location envisaged by the architect Austen Harrison in the original designs for the College.

Changes to the College’s internal layout have been taking place through 2024 to improve teaching and lecture rooms as well as accessibility to the whole site. When complete, other work includes step-free access to staircases and an improved large lecture facility.

Please note that the previous entrance at New Road will be closed for the near future while work takes place to form a new ramp and to complete internal refurbishments to that area of the College.

During working hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm), access through this new main entrance on Worcester Street will be restricted due to the ongoing works. Members of College and visitors will be able to access the College through a new door on New Street ///retire.during.bunny during these times until further notice:

The Lodge can still be accessed through the inner door from Lower Quad.

Current College members can find out more about using the new entrance and Lodge on the College Intranet (Nuffield login required).
