Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021

Nuffield alumnus and Visiting Fellow John Kay has been knighted in this year’s list.

Economist and Visiting Fellow John Kay has been recognised with a Knight Bachelor in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to economics, finance and business.

John’s work is primarily in microeconomics and using economic tools to understand the changing structure of firms, industries and markets. He recently co-authored the book Radical Uncertainty (The Bridge Street Press, March 2020) with Mervyn King, which questions our reliance on numbers when looking into the future and suggests that we rely instead on the power of human judgement. His latest book, Greed is Dead with Paul Collier, was published in July 2020 (Penguin). He has been a regular columnist for the Financial Times and much of his writing can be followed on his personal website, www.johnkay.com.

John is currently a Fellow of St John’s College and has been a Visiting Fellow of Nuffield since 2014. Previous positions also include director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the first dean of the Saïd Business School.
