Warden gives evidence to Commons Health and Social Care Committee

Andrew Dilnot answered questions from MPs about capping social care costs in the UK.

Nuffield Warden Andrew Dilnot presented evidence to the UK Commons Committee on Health and Social Care on Tuesday 14 July 2020, restating his recommendations from 2011 that there be a cap on social care costs.

During the evidence, Andrew described the current means-testing system as a “stain on the nation” and in need of immediate reform. Due to inflation, Andrew suggested that this cap should be increased from £35,000 to £45,000.

Andrew’s recommendations were picked up across the national press (see for example The Times, 15 July 2020), and a recording of the committee meeting has been made publicly available via the Parliament Live TV website.
